Spring Capsule Wardrobe | Kitty Cotten
Welcome to my first ever capsule wardrobe! My spring capsule is made up of 40 pieces, which will last me from March to May, and the kicker – no shopping in between capsules.

After some reflection into my shopping habits I was shocked by how much time I spent shopping for clothing. Shopping, well mostly browsing, because I’m pretty good with my money, had become almost a hobby for me. When I was bored or stressed, I’d go shopping.

Even in my downtime I was clicking off into online shops from instagram or youtube or whatever social app I was thumbing through, and adding things to shopping carts, kind of just for fun, I guess. I rarely bought the stuff, it was like virtual window shopping.

Someone I used to shop with often was my little sister, Kimberly. That was just something we did to pass time if we wanted to hangout but didn’t know what to do. We went to the mall or some cute shop in uptown we’d seen on instagram. Funny thing is, both Kimberly and I had this capsule awakening you might call it right around the same time.

So, in solidarity we each started a capsule wardrobe. It’s be awesome doing this alongside my sister (she’s blogging about it too – go check her out!). It’s kind of like having a workout buddy. We snapchat our outfits to each other in the mornings and lend our sisterly support a needed. It’s great!

I’m really excited to start this capsule wardrobe journey. My goal is do it for a full year – spring, summer, fall and winter. What drives me most with this capsule wardrobe is pulling my desire for continuos consumption, having a well thought out cohesive wardrobe will just be an added bonus. I want to live a life where I’m not (or minimally) affected by the constant push of consumption for new, shiny things. I want a life full of life not more stuff.

Here’s a look at my spring capsule wardrobe. It might be on the bigger side for a traditional capsule, but I live in Minnesota and the weather here is very unpredictable during the spring months, so taking that into a account I landed on 40 pieces – 9 short sleeves, 13 long sleeves, 4 sweaters, 2 dresses, 2 light layering jackets (I’m not a cardigan or blazer person), 1 vest and 1 maxi skirt.

I think I’m going to learn a lot from my initial capsule, like what types of pieces I wear often and what pieces I only worn a few times. While writing this post, I’m about 2 weeks into this capsule and I’m already seeing where I have holes – mostly the layer pieces, maybe I need learn to like cardigans – and where I have excess. But, right now I’m not worrying about that. I’m focusing on what I have in my closet and learning to get creative! Wish me luck!
