I don’t usually wear or pack too much makeup for a beach vacation, instead just a few pieces to create a natural, pulled together look. When I’m on the beach I always wear SPF on my face and lips. Sometimes I’ll pop on a tiny bit of waterproof mascara and sheer out a lipstick over my lip balm. That’s it. The rest of the makeup is versatile to create a few looks whether I’m going for dinner, having drinks at the bar or headed into town for a night out.
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20
A tinted moisturizer or a BB / CC cream is the perfect alternative to traditional foundation. They usually give a sheer to medium coverage which will blend well into your skin if you tan. I like Laura Mercier’s because it’s oil free with an SPF, but I still apply traditional SPF under the tinted moisturizer! I’m all about protecting my skin from the sun. Another bonus with this product is how easy it is to blend out with your fingers so you don’t need to bring a foundation brush.
Sunscreen & Lip Balm
Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen SPF 55
Chapstick Lip Balm SPF 15
I’ve been using this Neutrogena sunscreen for years. It’s the best drugstore sunscreen that won’t clog my pores or leave my skin overly greasy. I’m not to fussy about lip balms, just needs to have at least an SPF of 15 and needs to be in a tub versus a pot, which can be a real pain to try an open after applying sunscreen.
Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in “Vanilla”
I’ll bring concealer to apply under my eyes and spot cover any discoloration. This is my absolute favorite all-over concealer! Excellent coverage and super blendable.
Bronzer & Eyeshadow
NYC Color Wheel Mosaic Face Powder “All Over Bronze”
I don’t use a lot of bronzer on a day-to-day basis at home, but when I’m going on a beach getaway I like to fake a bit of a glow. NYC’s bronzer is matte and an affordable drugstore bronzer. There are a ton of great bronzers out there, just look for one that is matte so you don’t end up like a crazy bronzed disco ball. I also like to use bronzer to add bit of definition to the crease of my eye lids at night since I don’t bring eyeshadow.
NYX Cream Blush “Natural”
Cream blushes are the way to go when you’re using a tinted moisturizer. I use the EcoTools brush listed below to apply it to the apples of my cheeks then blend it back towards my temples. You can also use your cream blushes to add a little bit of color to your lips.
Highlighter & Eyeshadow
Stila All Over Shimmer Duo “Kitten”
To add a bit more glow in the right spots, I run the lighter color highlighter over the top of my cheekbones, center of my eyelids near the lashes, down the bridge of my nose and a little bit in the inner corners of my eyes. If I want I can also use the more golden shade on my eyelids as an eyeshadow.
Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Glide-on Eye Pencil in “Lush”
I like a creamy eyeliner to tightline my eyes for a natural look or I can use it to create a subtle smokey evening eye look by applying it to my lash line then blending it out using my fingers or a q-tip.
Any Mini Size. Or full size Maybelline Full-n-Soft Waterproof.
Waterproof mascara is a must for me! Especially since I like to apply a little bit to my lashes during the day. My favorite mascara of all time is Maybelline’s Full-n-Soft. If I have a mini size waterproof mascara from a recent ipsy box or sephora rewards, I’ll bring that to save a little space.
EcoTools Multi-Tasking & Highlighting
I use the multi-tasking brush for my blush and bronzer application. The highlighter brush is a mini size fluffy dome brush perfect for applying highlighter to my face and eyes, and to apply bronzer to my eye socket.
Sephora Mattifying Blotting Films
I have really oily skin! When trying to combat the shine I like to use blotting films instead of powders, because powders tend to look cakey on my face. Blotting films suck up the oil leaving my face matte and refreshed.
Sonia Kashuk Satin Luxe Lip Color SPF 16 in “Very Berry”
YSL Rouge Volupte Shine in No.15
The best way to dress up my makeup on a beach vacation is a pop of color on my lips. I LOVE this Sonia Kashuk color which I’ve already talked up on this blog. It’s wonderful! That YSL lipstick is my very favorite pinky coral color for fair skin. It’s hard to find a coral lip shade that won’t washout or throw-off my pale skin, but this YSL color is divine and I actually think it makes my skin look a tad bit tanner. Or maybe it’s all the freckles I get in the sun.
